Maeve's In Town!

A while back, I raved about Galway fiddler Maeve Donnelly. I'm now delighted to report that she's going to be in town this Friday, playing a concert at Glucksman Ireland House. Here's what their promotional materials have to say:

Maeve Donnelly is among the most accomplished and entertaining fiddlers in Irish music today. Though deeply rooted in the musical tradition of her native east County Galway, Maeve is a thoroughly modern player who electrifies audiences with a fiery and uninhibited performance style. Her partner for this concert is no mere accompanist. Scotsman Tony McManus has been widely hailed as one of the world’s most virtuosic and innovative acoustic guitarists. He is a renowned soloist in his own right and has made several acclaimed recordings of Irish, Scots, Cape Breton and Quebecois tunes.

It's sure to be a brilliant concert, but I don't need to tell most of ye that!

The concert is this Friday, April 6, at 9pm.

Yeah, Tes, rub it in. All I get to do this Friday is go see Lunasa at the Birchmere. Not that I don't like Kevin and the lads, but I like Maeve Donnelly better. (And I bet Kevin would rather be playing with Maeve himself, exceptin' he gets the big bucks playing with the band.) Sooo, have fun! (Like I need to tell you that...) She is going to be at East Durham again this year, isn't she?

Awww, poor baby! ;-) No, I certainly wouldn't trade Maeve for Lunasa, though I'm sure plenty would.

As for her being at East Durham--I actually don't think so, though I haven't looked at the roster lately. I seem to remember that neither Maeve nor Liz will be there...and, for that matter, neither will I, since I'll be in Donegal learning Irish.

Wow, so who gets to fight off, er be accompanied by, Bretholz's Big Band of Bodhran Bashers this year if you're not there?

And if you're learning Irish, you could verify that the guy who translated my blog name for me didn't sneak in some Irish obscenity or some such as a joke. Although it was Anthony McCann who did the translation for me, and I don't think that kind of thing is part of his M.O. But one can never be too sure...

I dunno--perhaps one of the Pearl River kids. I can just picture that....

And John, I can already tell you Anthony's not pulling the wool over your eyes: "briosca" is definitely "biscuit." Though if you get a deep-fryer, you might consider renaming your blog to "An Briosca/n Mo/r"--"The Big Potato-Chip." Or if you decide to go on a fast-food only diet: "An Bruscar Mo/r"--"The Large Trash-Can"....

Hmmm. Perhaps I should start blogging about public transportation issues and call it An Busaras Mo/r. Do you think Orion would comment if I did?
