Stuck inside of black tea with the coffee blues again.

...and procrastinating as I gear up to start working on my SSRC dissertation proposal grant application. But I found this blog while electronically sussing out a cafe I noticed yesterday on my journey to the post office. I've got a lot of time for people being nerdy about things in their blogs, even if I generally find excuses to walk away from such extended monologues at parties.

But now--time to get my mind off coffee and back to the truly delicious Lyons...and my grant application.

That's a great site!

There are two somewhat contradictory forces at play in sensory evaluation: expertise and openness. Openness says that anyone can do this, and anyone can. ...
Seriously though, this is where the second force comes in: expertise. Knowledge, though free, is not arbitrary. There is such a thing as right and wrong. Naturally, there is no right or wrong when it comes to pure preference. But people (yours truly included) often make the mistake of extrapolating from their small preference a whole imaginary set of laws and truths. I find it astonishing how much "knowledge" is bandied about by people who don't have any idea what they are talking about.

I'm going to put that up next to my computer.
